SPRINGFIELD ARMORY NHS: The Armory visitor center and museum will be closed in February and March for construction to upgrade the Armory mechanical systems and ensure the ongoing protection and preservation of the building, museum, and collections.
Visitors will still be able to walk the historic grounds, and park staff are taking this opportunity to collaborate with the Springfield Museums and the Springfield Downtown Visitor Center to offer special programs.
Looking ahead: In June the site will host the Kurt Swanson Bucholz Arsenals of History Symposium. This national symposium, started in 2017 at the Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, will look at firearms as material culture in the U.S., with the theme “Collections: Objects as a Lens to the Past, Present, & Future.”
